The beauty in nature and the things that bring beauty and mystery to life inspire my magical realism and fantasy artwork. Those things are wildlife, untouched nature, fantasy, flowers, and feminine elegance. I am fascinated with secret gardens and the deep forest where magic is waiting- and anything can happen. Wildlife and landscapes come alive, infused with a touch of fantasy elements. It brings me great happiness to paint ethereal women, fairies, mermaids, unicorns, dragons, and angels. My wildlife paintings primarily focus on capturing the beauty of animals like foxes, wolves, deer, birds, horses, big cats, and more. I am very inspired by fairytales and myth and the timeless idea of soulmates and true love with a touch of magic.
My artwork utilizes color to capture and express feelings, moods, and settings. I gravitate towards a palette of rose pinks, calming blues, and rich purples, adding a splash of terracotta and yellow ochers for warmth and depth. The occasional glint of metallic or sparkle of glitter adds a touch of magic to my artwork.
I also create accurate landscape paintings for commissions, as well as landscapes that hold personal meaning to me, whether they are places I've visited, places I dream of visiting, or entirely imaginary scenes. I use my paint to create a new reality, where the world is exactly how I wish it to be. When I am painting a landscape, I am mentally escaping into the painting and feeling at peace.
Acrylic, oil, and gouache are my favorite painting mediums. With acrylics, I like to build color in thin layers for a smooth finish and little to no texture. Sometimes I use added mediums, but most times, I use only water. I love the creaminess and blendability of water soluble oil paints and the ability to dilute and spread the paint with water instead of oil and solvents. Gouache appeals to me because it combines elements of acrylic, watercolor, and even oil, allowing for extensive blending.
While my current paintings are mostly small to medium because of space limitations, I’m happy to create larger pieces on commission if requested. I paint on both canvas panels and stretched canvas, which both have their own benefits. I prefer canvas panels because I enjoy painting on a firm surface, and they are easy to store, ship, and frame if desired. I also appreciate stretched canvases because they don’t need frames.
